After reading many mixed reviews, I honestly didn't expect to like the book as much as I did.So the premises of the story is that 35 girls are selected, in which the Prince will choose among them his future wife, and that said, the future queen of the country.The Selection is to show the country,that anyone can become a queen, no matter the caste she is in.Caste?Yep, in this future...all the people are separated in castes, being the ONE, the riches ones (including of course the royal family) to EIGHT (the poorest, the so called pariah of society)! The thing is everyone is included in this castes, according of what they're ancestors were in the formation of the new nation. Anyway, the Selection is on, like a kind of reality tv show...where the Prince will eliminate the girls until he finds the one. Not many choice from him in that,right?So, America, our heroine, signs up because Aspen (her love) and her parents ask her too... well she gets the surprise of a lifetime when she is actually selected to go. And well, now that Aspen broke her heart, she soon realize that it's worthy to go, even for a week, to get some help for her family.What she didn't expect was how different Maxon is from the TV persona, and they become friends...and slowly something more! He'd wanted his first kiss to be with me. I thought about the Maxon I knew now - the man full of compliments, the man prepared to give me the winnings of a bet I lost, the man who forgave me when I hurt him both physically and emotionally - and discovered that I didn't mind that at all. *FANGIRLING*So between etiquette and history lessons, "catfights" between the girls and constant attacks by the rebels...the relationship between them grows and also the confusion in America's heart.So for me, Aspen is no competition the moment Maxon enters the story...I just loved him. Now eagerly starting the 2nd one :)p.s- On another note, i recommend the reading of The Prince (#0.5), after reading this one...it makes more sense imo, since you already know the character and the "world" they live in!
